The importance of encouraging boys to read is universally acknowledged, but the way in which this can be achieved has long been the subject of debate. A recent report suggests that getting boys to read anything - whether a comic or the sports section of a tabloid - is better than nothing. Whilst this is arguably true, it ultimately does little to establish a solid foundation upon which the life-changing effect of reading can be built.
