The goal was to raise attainment in literacy and encourage an enjoyment of reading by providing more access to, and interest in, books. Moira McCrossan, Head Teacher of Moniaive Primary School, currently has 58 pupils in Primary 1 to 7 actively using the Accelerated Reader program. They have been using Accelerated Reader since March 2008 and have found that it has increased enthusiasm, concentration and motivation for reading across the whole school.

When the school's Librarian, Kirsten Bax, joined the staff in 2000, one of her first briefs was to follow-up on material that had been received about Accelerated Reader - which she duly did and proposed introducing a pilot following successful lobbying for additional funding. The pilot went so well that the program was rolled out across the whole first year intake, taking in around 70 children.
