Learning Progressions Built for the National Curriculum
Assessments tell you what your students know. Learning Progressions in reading and maths tell you what your students are ready to learn next.
Informing planning and teaching
Learning Progressions are incorporated into the Star Assessments programmes. They are a continuum of skills required by the curriculum arranged into the order in which they are typically learned.
Our Learning Progressions were initially built in collaboration with NFER for the national curriculum. The research-based work conducted by NFER has been empirically validated using assessment data, ensuring that the learning progressions are a robust reflection of students’ skill acquisition and educational progression. These Learning Progressions were then updated in 2023 to be ready for interconnection to the Renaissance ecosystem and to provide teachers with improved, more focused solutions. This transition allows users access to enhanced Star reporting and deeper connections to the suite of Renaissance products.
Learning Progressions inform planning and teaching through skill-based reports in the Star Assessments programmes.
