Getting started

Accelerated Maths Advantage is available by subscription and hosted online at Renaissance Place (RP). STAR Maths assessment can be administered at any time, and pupils can submit their Accelerated Maths answers using AccelScan cards, CRS (Classroom Response System) Responders, or Renaissance Learning’s versatile NEO 2 writing tool.

For effective implementation, we recommend that time is set aside for dedicated maths practice, either as part of an established maths lesson - or in addition to it.

AMA engenders enthusiasm for, and success in, maths amongst pupils of all ages and abilities in four simple steps:

1. Perfect practice makes perfect The wealth of data provided by STAR Maths provides a detailed picture of the maths understanding of every pupil so that appropriately challenging Accelerated Maths practice assignments can be created.
2. Personalised assignments Maths topics can be first taught to the class, a small group or individual pupil before specific objectives are assigned using Accelerated Maths Advantage, which automatically prints personalised assignments for each pupil.
3. Automatic scoring and reports Pupils complete their practice assignments on paper to ensure they understand the working and submit their answers to the class computer using the CRS (Classroom Response System) Responder, NEO 2 or the AccelScan Intelligent Mark Recognition Reader. The answers are automatically marked and a TOPS Report of the results is printed, along with the pupil’s next practice assignment.
4. Detailed feedback As with Accelerated Reader Advantage, the immediate feedback pupils receive in the form of a TOPS Report is motivating for them, and provides the teacher with valuable progress information. It also engenders one-to-one discussion with the pupil about their understanding of the topic.

Home Connect is a unique feature of RP that significantly aids home-school communication by allowing parents and guardians to access information about their child’s progress with AMA. They can log in from their home computer and monitor progress by viewing TOPS Reports, and up to six family members can automatically receive email updates once a test has been completed. Pupils can also score practice assignments and test new objectives. Additional practice can also be completed using Renaissance Learning’s MathsFacts in a Flash software.
