STAR Early Literacy helps to: A. Inform instruction by accurately establishing each pupil’s level of literacy B. Engage pupils through personalised practice C. Achieve increased levels of literacy amongst all pupils
 |
A: INFORM
In as little as 10 minutes, STAR Early Literacy assesses a pupil’s command of 41 skills across seven key literacy domains: General Readiness, Graphophonemic Knowledge, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Structural Analysis and Vocabulary through a series of computer-adaptive questions. By administering the assessment on a weekly basis, progress can be easily monitored and Response to Intervention (RTI) screening completed using the Diagnostic and Growth Reports. The wealth of data available at the touch of a button can then inform instruction within your existing reading curricula – allowing personalised practice for every pupil.

B: ENGAGE
The 10 minutes, or less, that it takes to complete a STAR Early Literacy test is long enough for the program to accurately assess a pupil’s level of literacy, but short enough to hold their attention. As the questions automatically adapt to find the pupil’s level of understanding, they should always feel comfortable and not intimidated by them. Sound and pictures help engage the pupils, and as each question is spoken, every pupil is catered for – regardless of their individual ability.

C: ACHIEVE
The combination of accurate diagnosis of every pupil’s level of literacy, and consequently informed instruction and personalised practice, help promote pupil engagement and achievement across the class and Year Group. STAR Early Literacy supports pupils of all ages and abilities at this critical stage of their literacy development; helping them achieve all they can through personalised practice and regular assessment.
