Enter The Lockdown Learning Awards 2020!

By Margaret Allen, Strategic Education Manager

For the last four years the Renaissance Awards have celebrated best practices and outstanding achievement from schools and individuals across the country. Last year’s awards saw winners from Littlehampton to Luton, Kettering to Corby and we were able to host over 50 guests on our 14th floor offices in London Docklands.

Each year the event has grown in terms of the number of entrants, awards and – of course – winners! This year’s virtual event, however, will be bigger in many different ways – as event hosts, former judges and former teachers Margaret Allen and Frances Kingston explain in verse…

During this challenging and exacting year

We’ve realised that from the norm we should all veer.

Social distancing of course must be done

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun!

The option to reward is our objective

And to achieve this, we must all be selective

Social media’s exploded with posts and info

Children, teachers, books all agogo

Reading, assessment and enjoyment we’ve seen

But at the heart there is always a person or team.

(It goes without saying that all the above

Can of course include maths to share the love.)

To identify categories specifically defined

Made the judges reconsider the winners to find

So instead of a heading, a listing or category

Nominate the effort, the support or the story.

Encouraged, supported, incentivised or bribed

Let’s not be specific just “what was the vibe?”

Let’s celebrate the people that are making a difference

To ensure that those children get the better of inference.

Not only the hard work you did up until spring

But how was it for you with the “working from home” thing?

Got a colleague to celebrate, or a story to share?

We know schools are special, the staff really care.

Who inspired us all with that extra mile,

Who engaged or enthused, gave energy with a smile?

So schools far and wide, let’s bring about cheer

And include all the heroes who’ve worked through the year!

The Lockdown Learning Awards are here

We are receptive to your entries, have no fear.

500 words or a two minute video

That’s all it all takes for you to join the show.

Here is the link, help yourself, don’t be shy.

We are so excited to hear from you, no word of a lie!

In other words, the Lockdown Learning Renaissance Awards aim to recognise the ingenuity, creativity and diligence of schools over the last year, but especially since the outbreak of the pandemic. That’s why, for the first time, we’re not only accepting entrants from outside the UK and Ireland, but also from schools not currently using Renaissance solutions.

Nominations can be made until October 30th at: renlearn.co.uk/lockdown-learning
