Poster for the World of Norm

Congratulations to Giselle Pinto at Bablake School, who has beaten off stiff competition to win the ‘Out of Norm’ comic strip challenge!

Hundreds of entries were received for the ‘Out of Norm’ competition, which saw students from across the country design their own comic strips based on the hugely popular World of Norm series of books. The competition was run in collaboration with Orchard Books, which publishes the series, and the Beano, which designed a poster template.

As the winner, Giselle will receive a signed set of World of Norm books and an additional set for her school. Author Jonathan Meres will pay a visit to the school to congratulate Giselle in person. Jonathan’s author visits are renowned for the entertaining way he uses humour and performance to talk to groups about writing.

All the entries began, as all the Norm books do, with the line: “Norm knew it was going to be one of those days when he woke up and found himself…”, and finished with the line: “Abso-Flipping-Lutely!” Giselle’s winning entry was chosen because it combined artistic talent with fantastic storytelling – the plot was engaging, witty, and totally in keeping with the tone of the books.

There is still time to take the quiz on the latest World of Norm book at takethequiz.co.uk, where you will also find lots of resources and activities for students to enjoy.
