 1. Developing the Accelerated Reader Library
Essential to the successful implementation of Accelerated Reader (AR) is the effective preparation of your library. In this session we explore methods of matching the books in your library to the AR quizzes available and discuss labelling and colour coding them for use with AR; thereby developing an efficient AR library by making it easy for your pupils to be guided to books at the appropriate level.
 2. Renaissance Place Administrative Tasks
For both new customers and those that are upgrading from AR desktop, this session plays an important role in getting you up and running. It will provide you with an introduction to your personalised Renaissance Place website and walk you through the initial administration tasks on the site, such as the process of setting up your school data in preparation for STAR Reading testing and AR quizzing.
 3. Understanding STAR Reading
Now that your site is set up and you are working on preparing your library it is time for your pupils to complete STAR Reading assessment. The focus will be on understanding the functions of the software and how the assessment works in relation to AR. Your Implementation Specialist will guide you through the data produced including estimated Reading Ages, NCL in reading and oral reading fluency measurements.
The session will also provide an understanding of how the adaptive branching technology makes this test a more comfortable experience for pupils of all abilities, and by the end you will be able to administer the STAR Reading assessment and identify your pupils’ individual reading levels.
 4. Launching Accelerated Reader in your School
Following on from the session “Understanding STAR Reading”, this session will help you analyse the results from the STAR Reading tests so that you will be able to quickly identify able and struggling readers. Your personal Implementation Specialist will then look at the practice element, AR, and the Best Practices for ensuring a successful implementation. By the end of this session you will understand how to take an AR quiz and you will have a good understanding of book levels, points and interest levels.
 5. AR Data Analysis
Key to a successful implementation of AR is an understanding of the data it provides. This will tell you whether the books are too long for your pupils, too difficult, too easy and could indicate that paired reading is required. During this session we will review and analyse your pupils’ AR quiz results using key reports such as the Diagnostic and Pupil Record report. We will discuss some of the classroom Best Practices and agree a way forward for the next few weeks to ensure that your pupils are on the pathway to success.
 6. Target Setting
This is an opportunity to review progress made from the previous training sessions and, if necessary, discuss alternative approaches to further improve results. This session will also concentrate on the benefits of setting achievable, individualised targets to help keep pupils motivated and focused. The Implementation Specialist will look at the various methods of setting targets and goals using average per cent correct, points, book levels and certification. By the end of this second monitoring session you will have a thorough understanding of the data available from AR every day.

On-site Consulting

Implementing Accelerated Reader for the first time with a large number of pupils requires a well-constructed plan to be in place. Our experienced Consultants can visit your school for a day and work with the Project Manager, members of the Senior Leadership Team and thoroughly review your resources and look at all options available to you. By the end of the day you and your Consultant will have constructed and agreed a detailed plan containing a timeline for implementation with built-in training and support that will enable you and your pupils to achieve maximum success.
