The Boulevard Academy have used Star Assessments for reading and maths as their primary means of assessing progress and attainment since the school opened in 2013. The school focuses heavily on literacy and numeracy, with their main goal in KS3 being for all students to achieve proficiency in these areas in preparation for the GCSE curriculum. Approximately 50 students in Year 7 are targeted for intervention with Accelerated Reader at the Mountbatten School. The school uses part of its Pupil Premium budget to run the programme, with eligible students seeing their reading ages improve by 6.2 months in one term. Students are gaining in confidence and attitudes towards reading have been transformed.
