Happy Birthday, Royal Baby!
By Chris Jarosh
This time last year we celebrated the arrival of Prince George of Cambridge, third in line to the throne. To mark the occasion, we blogged about our newly-released quiz on Martha Mumford’s picture book Shh! Don’t Wake the Royal Baby!
On Prince George’s first birthday, then, it is only fitting that we highlight Mumford’s follow-up title Happy Birthday, Royal Baby! Again illustrated by Ada Grey and published by Bloomsbury, this book finds the royal family in chaos as preparations are made for the baby’s birthday party. Presents are being opened, games are being played, and yet the royal baby is not happy. Until his great-grandmother drops in with the best present of them all!
The story will entertain and amuse children, but it is a special treat for adults. Ada Grey’s illustrations caricature the real-life royal family and feature lots of little visual jokes that will raise a chuckle for readers young and old.
