Everything you need to know to get you started with your Complete Literacy Solution onboarding.

myON, Star Assessments & Accelerated Reader are fantastic resources for schools. myON is more than just an online library with 70% non-fiction content and offers comprehension tools, audio options and projects. It connects to the Star online reading assessment, which in itself is an online reading assessment for your pupils which provides access to a huge amount of data about reading levels and skills. It also connects to Accelerated Reader to ensure pupils are reading the best books for them to understand, and to check whether they have understood them using the quizzes available. There are reports across all the products to track and monitor pupils’ reading and literacy progress.

Renaissance Clinics

If you need to ask the Training department about something specific, the Renaissance Clinics allow you to book time with one of our Training teams in a 1:1 environment. The Clinics are fantastic for asking advice on the products, for advancing your implementation, for analysing your data with some support or just figuring out your next steps after having completed the sessions.

If you are brand new to our products we know that getting started can seem confusing with different things to do, so to help you have a smooth implementation we have put together a step-by-step timeline below to help get you up and running.

Month 1
Objective Helpful Resources
Step 1a: Enrol your myON users

Adding pupils and teachers to myON is done through a website called Enroll and done separately to any other Renaissance products you may have. The admin login details to do this are sent to our main myON contact.

Step 1b: Upload your Renaissance Place users

Adding pupils & teachers for Star Reading & Accelerated Reader is done via an import of data. You will need to do this in order for pupils and teachers to access the sites.

  
Step 2: Training session 1: Your Complete Literacy Solution Introduction and Setup

Covering the following topics:

  • Overview of your Implementation
  • Star & AR Best Practices to know
  • Preparing your book stock
  • Renaissance Place administration & orientation
  

 

 
Step 3: Start to prepare your books for Accelerated Reader

Preparing your books for Accelerated Reader is important so that pupils can select the correct books for them based on the results of their Star assessments.
Step 4: Training session 2: The myON Pupil Experience

Covering the following topics:

  • Basic myON site orientation
  • Pupil homepage navigation
  • Connecting Star Reading data to personalise the recommendations
  • ·Browsing the myON catalogue
  • Opening a book and understanding the literacy tools
  • Creating Book Bundles
  
Step 5: Start your myON reading & bring all your staff on board

Launch myON with your pupils and get them reading, you may also want more of your staff to attend session 1 themselves so they are equipped to support their pupils.

  

 
Step 6: Training session 3: Introduction to Star Assessments

Covering the following topics:

  • Star Best Practices
  • The science behind Star
  • Pre-test planning
  • Administering a test
  • Post-test data for Accelerated Reader
  

 

 

 
Step 7: Star test your pupils

Ensure all your pupils have been tested by the next step.
Month 2
Step 8: Training session 4: Launching Accelerated Reader

Covering the following topics:

  • Accelerated Reader Best Practices
  • How AR quizzes work
  • Taking a Reading Practice quiz
  • Monitoring AR Data
  • Planning a launch
  

 
Step 9: Start your pupils reading and quizzing

Launching Accelerated Reader with your pupils and having them select, read & quiz on their books is necessary for advancing to the second part of the training sessions.
Step 10: Training session 5: The myON Teacher Experience

Covering the following topics:

  • Monitor the current reading activity across a class
  • Track the reading of an entire class or pupil
  • Identify reading habits
  • Setting classroom reading goals
  •  myON Projects and how they can be used in the classroom
  • The different tasks that power myON Projects
  • Making classroom connections
  
Step 11: Training session 6: Analysing your assessment and reading practice data and advancing your implementation

Covering the following topics:

  • Understand how to analyse your Star assessment data for attainment and growth
  • How to use the Accelerated Reader Data to track progress for reading
  • Setting reading practice targets
  •  Using the Vocabulary and Literacy Skills quizzes
  

 

 

Star Early Literacy

If you also have our Star Early Literacy (SEL) product then you will need to prepare for testing the children slightly differently from Star Reading and Star Maths, the main difference being that pupils will need headphones or speakers to access the test.

This will complete your implementation, but unlimited access to the initial sessions will be available for you or any new staff for the first 12 months of your Renaissance products.
