Star Reading and Accelerated Reader were introduced in January 2020 for use with our 1st and 2nd-year students (UK equivalent: yr 8 and yr 9)

I wanted to find a way to accurately assess our students’ ability to read comfortably in English and to ensure that the books available in our library were appropriately matched to their reading levels.
As a result, I have purchased considerably more YA titles and have actively promoted them to students. We can monitor students’ progress more effectively and ensure they can find books that they can really enjoy.
Accelerated Reader and Star Reading have supported our drive to promote a positive reading culture in school by ensuring every student is supported in their reading. All students who reach their reading targets receive merits, and top readers within each house are displayed each half term.
