Clear, Identifiable Objectives with Star Maths

Fulbridge Academy, Cambridgeshire

Fulbridge Academy has been using Star Maths since 2019 to support the school’s maths development strategy. In December 2021, the school carried out the second-most Star Maths assessments In the UK & Ireland with an astounding 3,847 assessments carried out since September 2020.

Renaissance Star Maths is a computer-adaptive assessment, using sophisticated item calibration and psychometrics to adjust dynamically to each child’s unique responses. The tests can be taken at any time throughout the year and as often as results are required.

We spoke to Assistant Headteacher, Libby, about how Star Maths has helped assist teacher instincts and monitor the progress of maths mastery for all pupils.

Star Maths supports our teacher’s judgement and exposes our children to the application of mathematical concepts taught in class.

“We are able to track progress and look at results in real-time as the children complete the test, saving time on us completing question level analysis something we have relied on in the past.”

We find the data particularly useful as a predictor to end of year outcomes. Additionally, the way the test adapts to the needs of the individual child makes testing low stakes and ensures success in some way for all.
