As a senior leader in a school which seeks to have exceptional outcomes, Q3 Academy Langley School’s Head of English, Adam Dawes, supports and endorses Star Reader on its impact on pupils’ reading progress and development. They have been using Star Reader as a key tool since 2016. Adam said they have had a reading age above chronological in their schools.

When they opened as a brand-new school in 2016, they identified Star Reader as a key tool in assessing reading ability, and supporting reading development. Since the lockdowns and closures of schools nationally, enforced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they have used Star Reader as a tool to measure learning losses, and attrition of learning. After all, the most influential vehicle for student progress is reading!

Creating a culture of reading with AR and Star Reader

Star Reader has been so much more than a reading age assessment tool at Q3 Academy Langley. They have been able to harness the comprehensive reporting and diagnostic feedback to provide guidance to parents and carers about how best to support their child’s reading. They have integrated ZPDs into their students’ understanding of how to select a book, marrying the powerful tools of Accelerated Reader with the invaluable insight Star Reader has provided. Recently, as they have opened a new library, they have worked with various suppliers to ensure that pupils appreciate the importance than AR and Star Reader have here – students know their level, find books that challenge and support them, and improve.
