Case Study: Subject Monitoring Report at St Andrew’s CofE Primary School

St Andrew's C of E School Nuthurst, West Sussex, England

St Andrew’s CofE Primary School has been using Accelerated Reader, Star Reading and Star Early Literacy since 2020 to support the school’s reading development strategy. In November 2022, Deputy Headteacher Sam Bacon met with a school governor who then compiled a report on the impact that Accelerated Reader had on pupils’ reading engagement, enjoyment and development over the last two years and specifically since Sam has taken over the Accelerated Reader scheme in September 2022. The report was subsequently shared with and corroborated by school governors.

Ofsted-Recognised Whole-School Reading Culture at The Byrchall High School

The Byrchall High School, Wigan, England

The Byrchall High School, part of Makerfield Academy Trust, has been using Accelerated Reader and Star Reading since 2008 to support the school's whole-school reading culture. In 2020 the school invested in the Complete Literacy Solution from Renaissance when they introduced myON, the digital library, to increase reading engagement at home and to provide access to more texts for otherwise disengaged readers.


Closing the Gap in Maths with Freckle at Bramley Sunnyside Junior School

Bramley Sunnyside Junior School, Rotherham, England

Bramley Sunnyside Junior School has been using Star Maths assessments since 2018 to support the school's maths development strategy. In 2022 the school introduced Freckle maths practice further to help the proficiency of numeracy skills for all pupils. In the summer term of 2022, we discovered that the pupils of Bramley Sunnyside Junior School had completed almost 5,000 Freckle maths practice tasks in two academic terms.


myON Ticks all the Boxes

St John's School & Sixth Form College, County Durham, England

St John's School & Six Form College, County Durham, have been using myON, the digital library from Renaissance, since 2021 to support the reading development strategy of all students across Key Stage 3.

Reading Culture at Leighton Academy

Leighton Academy, Cheshire, England

From August 2020 to April 2022, the pupils of Leighton Academy in Cheshire completed over 28,000 Accelerated Reader book quizzes and more than 3,000 Star Reading assessments to promote reading for pleasure and as part of their literacy development strategy.

In April 2022, the school discovered the fantastic news that they'd received a 'Good' Ofsted inspection report. The inspector's report specifically observed the school's successful reading development strategy.

Pupils Are Taking Reading Ownership at The Godolphin Junior Academy

The Godolphin Junior Academy , Slough

Over the last twelve months, The Godolphin Junior Academy has carried out the seventeenth-most Accelerated Reader quizzes in the UK & Ireland by completing 39,985 AR quizzes and 2,317 Star Reading. Correspondingly, a steady increase is found in both pupils' average AR reading level (+8.64%) and Star Reading ZPD level (+10.29%) at the Academy.
