Audio narration, writing tools and built-in dictionary for spelling & grammar are included to improve student’s digital competence and literacy skills.

Identify the attainment gap and target intervention in line with the Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG)

The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) is allocated to schools with pupils in Wales who come from low-income families and are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (e-FSM) and pupils who have been looked after continuously for more than six months (LAC), the purpose of the PDG is to reduce the attainment gap and help learners from disadvantaged backgrounds achieving their full potential.

In order to achieve the grant, schools must identify the target group of pupils, it’s characteristics and needs, plan intervention and monitor progress. At Renaissance, we’re here to help! Star Assessments provide world-leading reports at a click of a button:

The Screening report – identifies and classifies students into categories based on national benchmarks, grouping them into a range of ability levels from urgent intervention to gifted and talented.

The Suggested Skills report – provides an in-depth gap analysis for every student showing granular information about their required next steps

The Growth and Achievement report – tracks absolute progress made by each student, shows attainment compares to national benchmarks and shows how much progress students have made compared to children of the same age with similar starting points students.

“Impacting whole-school literacy at Cardiff High School”

Implemented in 2014, Cardiff High School adopted the program to support their English Language program, improve literacy levels and encourage reading.

“Since we implemented Star and Accelerated reader, students have been more independent with their reading, more excited about it, and we have been given the means to find new strategies to monitor, reward and celebrate reading. “

– Laura Cope, Leader of Literacy

Children are ‘more likely to become lifelong readers’ at White Rose Primary School

Just two months after their initial implementation of Accelerated Reader, White Rose, based in Caerphilly, have already seen changes in reading engagement.

“Children are seeing reading becoming easier for them. It’s much easier to get them reading: they know that they can read and they understand the books they are selecting. I think we’re much likelier to see lifelong readers as a result.”

– Michelle Morgan, LANCo
